Of course, you don't have to be a professional photographer to take great product photos. With an IPhone camera you can go a long way. We tell you step by step how to take good product photos with your phone.
Good light is everything
Product photos are best taken in a well-lit room. The more light, the better your product comes to life. By playing with the light, you can create multiple types of shadows. Want dark shadows? Place the product close to the window. Move further away from the window and you'll get a lighter but sharper shadow.
Use a tripod
A tripod is a must when taking product photos with your phone. With a tripod, you get a more stable image. It also makes it easier to use a fixed angle and the same style for your photos.
Think about the background
For product photos, a clean background is best. A white background is most common. That way you can't get around the product. Of course, you can also choose to use a colored background for your product photos. Then choose a color that is not too striking, so that the attention remains on the product.
Reflection and diffusion screens
With reflection screens, you limit strong shadows. It creates even lighting, allowing all the details of the product to stand out. You can use a diffusion screen if the sun is too bright. These two items are definitely worth the investment if you have money to spare for good product photos.
Phone settings
It is important that your phone battery is full and that you have enough storage space. Adjust the white balance correctly. Adjust it to the light temperature. Check the exposure and tap your screen on the product to be photographed. If possible, fix these settings. That way every photo will look the same.
When your setup and phone settings are right, take a test picture first. Is everything to your liking? Then you can start taking your product photos. Photograph the product from the front, back and side. Don't forget small details and any close-ups. Be careful not to zoom in when taking product photos. This will degrade the quality of the photos. Also, do not use a flash. Colors will not be reproduced properly and the photo will be overexposed.
After you have taken all the pictures, it is time for editing. You can do this on your phone as well. Editing photos is easier than you think. In fact, you don't have to make any drastic edits. Play a bit with brightness, sharpness, highlights/shadows, contrast and white balance. Save these settings and edit each photo the same.
Be careful not to edit the photos too much so that the products no longer look like the photo. Lightroom, Snapseed, Adobe Photoshop Express and VSCO are the best-known apps for editing photos.
If you are very busy and don't have time to take product photos, it's good to know that Yehwang photographs all the products itself. You can also use these photos on your website and social media channels.
